As The Leaves Fall…

With the help of Amaiò designer, Samantha Khoury, transitioning by-the-water Summer pieces to accent the crisp Fall season just got easier.

Jacqueline Maillot, $520.00

Throughout Summer 2019, we saw biker shorts paired with blazers, leopard prints, satin and silk separates, utilitarian jumpsuits, microscopic bags (yes, that bag), and neon. Serious questions have been circulating our offices, as well as social media: how to transition Summer looks, even swimwear, into Fall? In order to settle the elusive quandary, BODE Magazine editors got in touch with the trusted minds behind the beloved and très élégant luxury brand — Amaiò. From Après Swim bodysuits to deciphering between the right and wrong textures to transiting between east and west coast seasons, Amaiò tackles every possible ensemble scenario for this Fall season.

BODE Magazine: When styling an Amaiò bodysuit, what significant brands come to mind that will pull the look together?

Amaiò: Our Maillots are so versatile, so the options are virtually endless when it comes to styling. For daytime, wearing one of our bodysuits with high waisted denim, like classic Levis or RE/DONE. Wide leg trousers are also fantastic for Fall, and Victoria Beckham makes some great ones. You can never go wrong with a midi-length skirt. Those are so fun to buy vintage.

BM: When choosing textures and colors that will compliment your wardrobe for the Fall season, what do you initially opt for?

A: As each season generally offers different color schemes and patterns, Amaiò pieces essentially can be styled year-round. I tend to stay away from trends when it comes to color and fabric. I’m drawn to detail, so I often gravitate toward hand-embroidered textiles. I’m loving tulle, which has been a staple in our collection. I was raised partially in Paris, so you’ll always feel that Parisian romanticism (and sometimes, moodiness) in each of our collections.

BM: What can we look forward to in fashion this Fall to style with your versatile Amaiò Swim pieces?

A: I am loving the menswear-inspired dressing popping up everywhere. As someone with a distinctly feminine aesthetic, I do appreciate the contrast. For instance, I’m so excited to wear our pieces with plaid slacks or a wool blazer when the cooler weather starts to set in. I also love that sheer dressing is in right now. It gives me all the more reason to break out our classic mesh Isabel cardigan or wear any of our Fleur tops underneath a transparent blouse. There’s a puff-sleeve one from Simone Rocha I can’t wait to get my hands on!

BM: Being more than a swimwear line, how has staying up-to-date with current and upcoming styles affected the designs of Amaiò’s collections?

A: While we do keep an eye on trends, we avoid falling victim to them. That’s just not us. The reason why so many women love our collection is that they will always stand out and look elegant, polished, and feminine while wearing any of our pieces.

BM: Since Fall is officially here, what is your signature go-to look?

A: Layers! Oh, and dark florals. You’ll see me in sheer, feminine layers. Los Angeles will stay warmer for a little while longer, so our fall dressing feels more transitional than it does on the east coast or in Europe. Expect to see me in leather boots, a puff-sleeve blouse, and a midi-length skirt, like our Delphine skirt. Of course, a burgundy lip never hurts either.

BM: East coast to west coast, where is your favorite place to enjoy the crisp air and color-changing of the Fall?

A: You really cannot beat Paris in the Fall. When that’s not possible, I do love driving through New England. Even though it’s not your quintessential vision of autumn, Santa Barbara is one of my favorite places to visit, and it’s easy to get to from where I currently live. It may be too cold to swim in the water, but it’s still absolutely gorgeous.

While you begin sifting through your Summer wardrobe keeps, the team at Amaiò let us in on an exclusive secret to the long-awaited sightings of their upcoming November collection launch. To paint a picture, imagine frolicking throughout a French château in the 18th century…

Perfection.
