At Home in Puerto Rico with Webster Charlotten

Although interior design has only recently come to the fore of our knowledge regarding fashion model Webster Charlotten, it seems interior domestic architecture is just another extension of Charlotten’s array of talent gracing the fashion industry.

Viewing interior design as an extension of fashion, similar to the way a person is dressed can identify who they are, domestic styling via embellishments around you is another form of self-expression. “It tells a story of who that person might be, what they like, and what kind of lifestyle they have,” says Charlotten. Staying true to his claim, this multitalented menswear model invited us to the exotic and vibrant setting of Puerto Rico for a tour around his otherworldly oasis.

As we step inside Charlotten’s contemporary loft with coveted high ceilings, we are graced with modern accents, minimalist embellishments, industrial nuances, and of course, Charlotten’s striking masculine touch. “The inspiration was the space itself,” shares the model. “By being in a loft, it invited me to experiment with different elements and textures, such as leather, metal, and concrete. The idea was to keep the naturalness of the space, which is why I kept it in a neutral palette.” Spending his time between the urban likes of America’s mecca destination, New York City, and exotic island, Puerto Rico, the model is exposed to a wide array of interior approaches to design. “The first time I saw the loft ‘concept’ was in New York City, and I was very attracted to it. Then, that inspired me to get a place with the same ‘vibe’, but in a tropical setting,” shares the model. No novice to the domain of world-class interiors, Charlotten has always been drawn to the realm of domestic design, believing that it is especially important to live in a space where you feel your best. “That is how I feel in my apartment,” says Charlotten. “Also, a fun fact is that I started studying interior design. I guess the passion has always been in me.”

With the opportunity to travel the world for work Charlotten notes the influence differing cultures have not only in the way people live but also in the approach to which they decorate their space. “From my home,” Charlotten shares, “people can learn that to decorate a space you do not need a lot of things. By being selective with pieces of your choice and adding a pop of color as a statement can make a space look stylish and cozy.” At the forefront of the fashion world, Charlotten values the influence fashion can have on domestic architecture, noting his intentional watch on some of his favorite designers, staying up to date on what is trending via the fashion circuit. Not an advocate of the heavy approach to a Rococo style, this minimalist stays true to his taste for modern minimalism and the industrial elements of urban design. “My favorite aspect [of my home] is that it is a loft with high ceilings. This allows me to modify the space,” shares Charlotten. “My favorite area is the lounge area, where I spend most of my time relaxing, watching television, or hanging out with friends.” Transforming a blank slate loft into a comfortable home, selectively garnished with minimal, modern pieces, Charlotten deems a floor mirror as his must-have component to building any home. “I think having a great mirror is important because it can bring depth and give the illusion of a bigger space. It is also good to look at yourself in full before leaving the house,” smirks the chiseled face model.

With the current state of the world more or less confining us to our home living quarters, Charlotten has expertly built space of aesthetic intention harmoniously synced with livable feel. While respecting the social distance regulations mandated by most of the world, the model is practicing positive enforcements to analyze and reinvent himself. “I have taken the time to try new workout routines and diets to keep in shape and stay healthy while at home,” shares Charlotten. “I’ve also been relaxing and catching up on some television series now that I have the time. When we finally go back to normal, everyone will see another aspect of me. I am working on a special project with my brother that is coming out soon. I cannot say much about it, but stay tuned!” Unapologetic and inspiringly candid about his impulse, Charlotten is known to be someone unafraid of risk and open for new adventures and ideas. Preparing for the lifting of mandated social distance, the well-versed model has left us with these words: “We will all soon return to our lives. Take this time to reflect, take care of yourself, and, most importantly, stay in and safe.”
