Piece of CAKE with Tezza and The Caker

ATTENTION all cake lovers!

“It girl” and multi-hyphenate entrepreneur, Tezza Barton is at it again with another delicious collaboration to enliven all of your creative senses. Presenting us with a devilish taste of the sweet life, Tezza has partnered with New Zealand cake connoisseur and cook book author Jordan Rondel, better known as The Caker, to bring us the limited-edition Coconut Raspberry Lime Leaf Cake Kit. About to be seen on Instagram feeds everywhere, this cake kit truly is love at first bite. While our senses are affronted by an unparalleled taste and ingredient pairing, Tezza has also made sure to include a visual sensation, fit to “make your photos feel yummy” via her latest custom preset — CAKE. “I tried to bring the levity and softness of a bite of cake to how the preset will make your photos and videos look,” tells Tezza.

With a shared adoration for the synergy of art, fashion, and food, this unconventional, yet perfectly aligned collaboration is something you will all want a piece of. “The Tezza brand is all about celebrating the art of life and giving people tools to embrace their creativity,” shares Tezza, “so we aim to work with likeminded people who we feel are truly living their most artful lives. We fell in love with how each of Jordan’s cakes are their own works of art and that she has such a strong creative vision,” beams the entrepreneur and media maven. “How beautiful a dish can look, the creativity that goes into the presentation and ingredients, so when we discovered The Caker and saw her not only bringing art to the delicious cakes she makes, but that she also has the most amazing fashion sense and photography it felt like the perfect blend of everything we stand for as a brand.”

“When Tezza approached me about collaborating on a cake kit,” begins Jordan, “I was beyond excited! I had been obsessed with her for a long time and I was so honored to hear that she likes my style and aesthetic and wanted to work together. The Coconut Raspberry Lime Leaf was an existing flavor in New Zealand (where The Caker originates from) and we had been working on launching it in the U.S. It was a no brainer to take this super popular flavor and launch it in collaboration with Tezza, with custom packaging designed by her. We also included a background inside each kit so that people can photograph their finished cake on it — super cute.” “The packaging was designed with the cake flavors in mind,”  explains Tezza, “keeping the creamy-cake color with hints of red for the raspberries, the gestural outline drawing, it’s all inspired directly from the (insanely delicious) cake. We also really admire Jordan’s mix of modern and vintage, so we aimed to incorporate both styles into the packaging.”

“because I didn’t have a rule book to follow — I created my own rule book.”

Inside each thoughtfully constructed kit you will find the ingredients and directions needed to bring The Caker into your very own kitchen. With hints of woody coconut and sweet yet tart undertones of raspberries, this existing New Zealand flavor presents us with a truly authentic experience that is The Caker. “I think my style of cake is kind of its own thing. I use a lot of almond flour in my baking and don’t like things that are too sweet, so I think people in the United States are quite surprised when they try my cakes — but that’s what I want! I want to change the way people think about cake, and I want to change the notion that cakes always need to be themed, covered in fondant or doused with food coloring. I think cakes should taste even better than they look!” Completely self-taught through years of practice, trials, errors and experimenting, Jordan’s unrestrictive approach to baking has allowed her to push the boundaries and be super creative, “because I didn’t have a rule book to follow — I created my own rule book. Cakes are, or should be, very visually appealing so using social media as a tool to spread the word about The Caker has been pretty seamless from that perspective. I think it’s also been a great tool to show my audience that there’s a person behind this brand, to share my story and inspire others to create a food business if that’s what they want to do. My advice to someone looking to share their passion for food in the digital world is honestly to not try too hard and to just be authentic and real!”

While we know this picturesque and delicious cake kit will quickly became a pantry staple, what is it that Tezza and Jordan make sure their own kitchen is not without? “My espresso machine,” smiles Tezza, “is my favorite thing ever! It’s made of concrete and just so beautiful. It’s a little sculptural piece of art. And I love having all of my friends over in my kitchen, snacking on olives and bread and olive oil with good tunes, candles lit, making some simple but delicious pasta and big salad and just sharing that feeling of making a meal together. We do it about once a week and it’s so fun! Nothing too adventurous, but just great to be with people. I love making a delicious meal at home to share.” For Jordan, it’s “my German chef knives, as well as my microplane and cast iron pan. My favorite thing to cook when I have people round lately is a Middle Eastern feast — think mountains of fresh herbs, preserved  lemon, halloumi, burnt dates, bulgar wheat, cucumber salad and yogurt.”

From the final words of Tezza, “Make art, eat cake! Have so much fun baking this insanely delicious cake and explore your creativity in the kitchen while doing so.” And if you ever have any questions to the art of baking, Jordan is your go-to guru for all things cake — “I’m @thecaker on Instagram and you can email me at jordan@thecaker.co.nz if you ever want to ask me anything about baking or business!”

“Make art, eat cake!”
