Self-Care Practices to Do with your Significant Other

We are all for a little self(ish) love here at Bode, especially if that involves an evening bubble bath, followed with an at home face mask, and ending with a quiet home cooked meal for one. But have you ever considered what a little me time can do for our we time?

Self-care can do a lot for us solo, it allows time for internal reflection and self healing, as well as a moment to pause and simply be present in our happy place mentally. However, we would like to focus on what prioritizing a little pamper night for two can do for your relationship. So we have brought back content creator and wellness advocate, Robbi Jan, to share the benefits of including your partner in your nightly ritual, as well as her top 3 activities for two.

We are all for a little bond…

“Bonding! Trying new things together as a couple has built a lot of trust between us. It’s fun! I know a lot of men are skeptical about anything they perceive as ‘not masculine’ but, I do think the narrative is slowly starting to change and men are starting to embrace self care.”

Skincare! Need we say more?

“Skin is our largest organ, so trying a new face mask or a serum isn’t feminine — it’s just basic self care!” And if you need a little help convincing your s/o to try out this new product, try this tactic — “Hey, how about we try this new face mask while watching the James Bond movie on our couch!”

Let’s get zen.

“I always prioritize working out, it stimulates the body and the brain, and the endorphins that your body releases when you work out (the happiness hormone) are an added bonus. Alex loves to workout so it’s very easy to get him to try different things with me. As for other men who may not be as comfortable I really think it’s all about compromise and making them feel comfortable — like ‘hey, come with me to a yoga class and then afterwards we can go to that bar across the street and watch the game,’ — it’s all about compromise.”

Nightly reservation, party of two.

“I love to cook, it’s fun and allows us time to try new recipes and be creative together. Every night Alex and I make it a goal to sit down and have dinner, no phones, just catching up and talking about our day. It’s a nightly de-brief, and talking about our days and our feelings is very therapeutic and super important for couples to do. It also keeps us up to date on each others lives. It has become something I really look forward to.”

“There’s power in doing things together, the same way there is power in doing things alone!” So next time you’re about to indulge in a little R&R, plan a whole date night around it. It’ll be oh-so satisfying.
