In Fine Detailing with Alexa Leigh Jewelry

When making the decision for almost everything in life, we aim to fulfill three main criteria — effortless, classic and comfortable. Alexa Leigh Meyer — CEO and designer behind Alexa Leigh Jewelry — covers just that and so much more by creating sentimental pieces that can be worn everyday and on any occasion. What began as a solo double pendant necklace has transformed to a coveted collection of cuffs, rings, bracelets and anklets, all with one thing in common… Alexa Leigh’s vision.

“The journey has been a long one,” reminisces Meyer as she recalls the past ten years in the making of her namesake jewelry line. “While I always LOVED jewelry and would b-line for the jewelry case in any store I walked into,” continues the designer, “I wasn't sure that meant there was a career in it for me. After becoming a parent my priorities shifted. It was incredibly important to me that I was home for bedtime and bath-time and it seemed the only way to have that work life balance was to have your own company. I left the fashion industry to focus my efforts on the jewelry line and I have been incredibly fortunate that things have taken off as they have and I am able to spend the time with my family that I craved.”

Originally launching her business in 2010 in New York City, the story begins with a lost necklace. “My father casually suggested that I just remake it,” laughs Meyer. “I was naive enough to think that it was all that simple, but it set me down a path of creating an entire line of fine jewelry. I always loved the sentimental value of jewelry and that pieces were gifted for special occasions or handed down through generations. I wanted to maintain that special quality no matter the price point. I have never been someone that spends a ton of time getting ready, but I always thought jewelry can really complete a look so I also wanted the line to be effortless. This jewelry is the perfect compliment to any outfit and something you could wear day to night.”

Particularly loving her 2mm comfort band rings, “they look great alone or stacked,” the designer is lately obsessed with her 3mm ball necklace complete with a chunky snake chain. Recognizing the often undervalued versatility in adornments to accent any ensemble, the possibilities really are endless, especially when you consider layering. “Sometimes an outfit calls for just a simple touch and sometimes I am in a layering mood and more is more. I love my line for that reason. It can be effortlessly layered together or looks good with just a single piece.” However, she will say: “DO play with mixing metals and lengths and sizes and DON’T overthink it.”

While work is very much a constant in her life, when the designer is not at her desk she is with her family. “Between pregnancy and covid, life has been simplified a bit,” reveals Leigh. Not your regular mom, Alexa Leigh Meyer, and overall #momgoals, is paving the way for working women forgiving of herself for her not so organized approach to balance. “Balancing motherhood and a professional life is doable, but not easy,” beams the designer with a laugh. “Try to go with the flow. Motherhood teaches you that you really have no control over circumstances, but you can control how you react to them. I always say, I can do anything, but not everything. Don't be afraid to ask for help.” If you are a mother, even more so, a working mother, you know first hand that no day is ever the same. “I really enjoy that,” heartens Meyer. “It's a big mix of work, kids, picking them up from school, taking them to activities, hopefully finding time to workout and eat a meal in the mix of all of that. I envy the people that have a more organized life. Goals!”

With a tight lip on the exciting future for Alexa Leigh Jewelry, Meyer was more than forthcoming to divulge her knowledge acquired over her ten years in the industry. “Generally I would say it's important to be true to yourself and define what success looks like for you,” enlightens the designer. “It may not be what it looks like for someone else and that will help guide the way you run your business. I am beyond grateful to have your support and if you are discovering us for the first time, I hope we can surprise and delight you with what's to come!”
