2022 Editor’s Letter
As I am writing this letter on the 30th of December, it has dawned on me how fast 2022 has now come and gone. But approaching a new year is always such an exciting feeling because no matter what you have experienced in the year prior, a fresh start is just around the corner. Days seem brighter with opportunity and there is a powerful draw of inspiration laced in each passing minute. The tribulations and trials seem to lessen their weight because no one knows what is to come in the new year. For a short time, we are provided the wonderful opportunity to embark on and direct a completely empty chapter with what we hope to accomplish and experience. No desire is too small, no dream is too big, but one question is certain, are you just interested in achieving the goals you set or are you committed?
Gone, but not forgotten
Reflecting on 2022 is an important first step because we first need to acknowledge all that has happened, as well as the lessons learned. You begin to see things in a new perspective, like skimming through a history book and like in class, take notes. This cheat sheet will help you set goals for the new year.
You don’t need eyes to see
“There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy and the tired.” It seemed fitting to draw inspiration from F. Scott Fitzgerald and the infamous Gatsby. There are many types of people in this world and what matters is being the person that you want to be. For us at Bode, we want to be the pursuing. The new year allows reflection on who it is you want to be, and even more importantly, on how you will become that best version of yourself. So many people never achieve what it is they desire simply because they are not quite sure of what they want. Do not let that be you. Now this does not mean that you have to know 100% percent who you are and what you want for the rest of your life, it is perfectly okay for you to maybe only know what it is that you want for the next six months. You don’t need eyes to see, you just need vision. What is important is to decide what it is that you desire, whether that is for the next five years or only for the next five minutes, just embrace that vision. Commit to that goal and be open to the possibility of fluidity and adjustment over time. As long as you are committed and pursuing, you will succeed.
Never the same day twice
This last step is oh so important. While it is crucial to have a vision and to embark on plans to achieve success, it is just as crucial to immerse yourself into the present moments. The journey is just as important as the destination. Each new year starts off with what seems to be infamous time and possibility, but as you know, time flies. And before you know it, you will be reflecting on the trials and the lessons of what was just considered a “new year.” It is true what they say, life is what happens in the little moments just as it is in celebrating the big achievements. Make big moves, slow down, be spontaneous, and always put a little of yourself into everything you create. Make this year one for your own personal history book.
Goodbye 2022. Hello 2023.
