Easy Holiday Decorating Hacks

’Twas 4 days before Christmas, and all through the house, not a decor was in place, not even a stocking the size of a mouse. The mantle is clear and the tree is still bare, we must find some greenery, but how, and from where?

A few miles South from the jolly North Pole, we got help from our friends, @athomewithbae — a.k.a Heather and Sean — Now listen up, because it doesn’t have to take all year to bring your home some holiday cheer!

HEATHER & SEAN’S GUIDE TO GARLAND:

Hung around the windows with care

“Garland is our favorite, we have it in every room! We love to add it to mantles and consoles, as well as use it to trim windows. Pro tip: if you're using faux garland, make sure it doesn't look faux. There are lots of realistic options out there. If you're using real garland, grab a mister from amazon and give it a quick spray down once a day / every other day so it stays fresh all throughout the month!”

Foraging for foliage

“This was our first year using real garland and it's  safe to say that we are officially real garland people now! It's beautiful, affordable, and smells amazing,” hello balsam! “It’s also a great way to support small businesses around the holidays, we snagged ours at a local tree lot. We chose a garland that was a mix of pine, boxwood and other natural greenery, but they have all types available. It’s so beautiful and inexpensive. We have also seen people gather branches from their backyard and DIY their own garland! If you live in a wooded area this could be a great, cheaper option, plus a fun activity for you to do with family and friends.”

A Martha May light show

Afraid your home might be looking a little too overgrown with green? “When in doubt, add more lights! Sean loves lights and insists that they are in every room. I am pretty sure he adds more lights to this house every single day throughout the month of December! Also, battery powered candles from amazon are affordable and can really cozy up a space.”

Now that you’re ready to deck your home with time to spare, we’d love to see how you display your greenery this year. Tag us in your photos and share some of your ideas!
