Trim your Guilt with These Pre-Thanksgiving Hacks

And the green glow drink you NEED to try.

Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday around here, from friendsgiving and family gatherings, there is so much to be thankful for. Did I mention the food? I don’t know about you, but we wait all year to indulge in this day of all feasts, but it got us thinking… with how much we have dedicated to self care, clean-er eating, and overall wellness, could there be a better way to “indulge” this holiday? We tapped registered holistic nutritionist and wellness advocate, Surya Kim-Greze, for her natural remedies to survive the holiday bloat and the Green Glow Drink you need to know about.

Support the local and it’s all about color in this fridge.

“When I shop, I always buy as fresh and as local as possible — usually just enough for the week. I always make sure I keep my pantry stocked with high-quality oils (avocado + olive oil are my favorites) and grain-free alternatives like coconut flour tortillas or chickpea pasta.  I love to have a fridge filled with veggies, frozen fruit for smoothies, and wild salmon for protein. I swear by simple and easy-to-throw-together meals so healthy eating never feels like a chore.

Not just any supplements.

“I also always recommend a daily probiotic, b complex + omega 3 supplement for anyone and everyone! And a water filter — which is often overlooked.”

And when it comes to holidays, like the ultimate “cheat day” that is a Thanksgiving menu, what can we do to lessen the blow to our established nutritional plan? “Honestly, not much! One indulgent meal won’t significantly affect a normally clean and healthy diet, just as one salad won’t affect a highly processed and refined food diet either. Enjoy yourselves! Balance is so key.” We feel a little better! But don’t worry, there are still a few tricks up Surya’s sleeve for a little prevention and prep.

Wake and de-bloat.

“I love a concoction of warm water, lemon, and apple cider vinegar to start the day which has a gentle cleansing and antimicrobial effect. I’m also a huge fan of bone broth for its high l-glutamine content, which helps strengthen the gut’s lining, making it less permeable and prone to ‘leakage’. Lastly, one of my favorite beverages is raw, unpasteurized kombucha, which is filled with good bacteria for the gut — just look for one with little to no refined sugar.”

Listen to your mind and your body.

“Listen to your body as much as possible, eat consciously and mindfully (which usually means slower, and away from any screens), and fill up your plate with as many veggies as you can to ensure you’re still getting lots of nutritional value.”

Again, always drink your water.

“The worst thing you can do is under-eat and over-exercise. I recommend lots of filtered water, movement that feels good to you (even just a long outdoor walk), and balanced meals throughout the day filled with greens. I also love booking myself in for an infrared sauna session to help the body naturally detoxify.”

The GREEN GLOW DRINk you need to try.

“I used to never be a fan of traditional supplements — but having a yummy drink that I genuinely look forward to every day has been a game-changer for my digestion, energy, and skin. Even with the cleanest and healthiest diet, there will always be nutritional gaps because of the quality of today’s food, stress, environmental toxins, etc., so a supplement routine you truly enjoy makes a world of difference.”

“I swear by my daily Green Glow Drink, which includes a mix of probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, vitamin C, B vitamins, greens + more! It’s my favorite morning ritual that ensures I’m getting all my daily supplements in, as well as a healthy dose of phytonutrients.”
