Love in Bloom: Our Floral Guide to the Perfect Date Night In

Our Dearest Flowers,

So often we lose sight that Valentine’s Day is not just a “hallmark” holiday filled with obligatory dinner reservations, meals themed for two and the classic melt down moment of “I forgot what day it is, let me stop and grab whatever flowers are left at the grocery store on my way home from work!” But rather Valentine’s Day is an anniversary to remind us to express our love and appreciation for those we care for most, wether it be your ride or die girls or that person you still call your crush after all these years. However, as much as we want to plan the perfect date night, life can get in the way and before we know it Valentine’s Day is upon us and now what?

This heart season we want to surprise our loved one’s with the perfect date night in — wether that be a galentine’s get together or a romantic two-some — and for that, we are focusing on florals! Before you get overwhelmed with the idea of designing a floral themed evening, as most of us are just mere admirers of floral arrangements, we have brought back CEO and floral designer Kelsea Olivia from East Olivia Creative, as well as florist and owner of Siren Floral Shop, Rachael Lunghi, to share their designing expertise in setting the scene for our perfect (or even impromptu) date night in! Who says you have to go out for views like this?

First Up, We Have

Our Top Floral Designs to Arrange your Romantic Setting with Kelsea Olivia of East Olivia Creative

Location Location Location.

“The options with where to place florals [in your home] are endless! Spread ephemeral beauty all throughout your home by placing bud vases in your bathroom(s), a trio of vases each with their own stem on an entryway table, etc. This is one of the quickest and simplest ways to arrange flowers throughout your house and I highly recommend it.”

Say FOREVER with Preserved Arrangements.

“I can’t help of course to suggest our Forever Florals for the occasion! I would say that preserved / dried arrangements are just the thing for a fresh take on the classic Valentine’s Day offerings. And the best part? These arrangements will stand the test of time and last forever — hopefully just like the love that you and your partner are celebrating. In our Valentine’s Day line, you will absolutely find plenty of reds and pinks, but you will also find the loveliest on-trend fan palms, fluffy bunny tails and miscanthus grasses.”

Sweet and Simple with Single Stem Arrangements.

“One of my absolute favorite things to do with flowers — and something that I suggest for those who are a flower enthusiast, but perhaps are a bit intimidated by designing — I recommend doing single stem variety arrangements and placing them throughout your home. What does that mean specifically? It means instead of arranging and mixing all the flower varieties together, instead what you do is group all the flowers together by their specific color and variety. All spray roses would be grouped together, all greens grouped together and so on. All you’ll need is several vases and get creative! Sometimes a chic drinking glass, pitcher [or fancy pair of boots] can act as a vase.”

BYO-Arrangements for Two.

“If Fresh Flowers are more your vibe, then look no further than our Flower Therapy box which incorporates a DIY approach to some of the most beautiful flowers in the world. Creating some arrangements together can be such a fun way to bring the valentine’s day spirit into your home.”

Next, We Have

A New Color on the Menu with Rachael Lunghi of Siren Floral Co.

Your NEW color for romance.

“This year, I am casting my vote for purple! We are including a Reds / Purples design combo for our shop and it’s my favorite color combination we are offering.” It is said the color purple stimulates creativity, offering a synergy of awareness and peace and we are all for the vibrational vibes this Valentine’s Day!

Also, Less Can Be More.

“Bowls are always a good option [for nontraditional arrangements], especially if you have the right mechanics to design in. Something low and shallow is good. It could even be fun to fill a bowl with water and float flowers and candles in them.” Always remember to have fun with it!

When you have two of the freshest floral connoisseurs at your disposal, we of course had to ask — How do you truly feel about February 14th? “For me Valentine’s Day is such a fun time of year,” beams Kelsea Olivia. “As a pink loving maximalist, the fashion and flowers that are typical of the season make it all so exciting. Overall, I think Valentine’s Day is a time to first celebrate the love you have for yourself, and then the treasure that it is to share love with one another. I am less interested in the Valentine’s Day celebration in traditional relationships — i.e. a dozen roses, dinner reservations or a heart shaped box of chocolates — instead I am more excited by all the fun ways we can celebrate love within our friendships. Galentine’s Day has truly become the reigning Queen of the holiday [for me]. This year why not gift your bestie some beautiful blooms or treat yourself to a day of self-care just for you.” And as Rachel Lunghi encourages, “it’s a nice annual reminder to love on those you do, and to do that every day and not just around Valentine’s day!”

Whether you opt for an all-over floral approach to setting the Valentine’s scene or just focus on a single-sighted location, our girls at East Olivia Creative and Siren Floral Co have you ready to celebrate this romantic day in a setting worthy of a botanical garden. And what says “I love you” more than your own private garden?
